Aaron Rosa is currently based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He joined the Frostic School of Art in 2023 as an Audrey Morean Petersen Graduate Fellow and recently completed his Master's degree at Western Michigan University. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2021 from Bowling Green State University, specializing in Ceramics and Printmaking, with a minor in Community Arts Education. His artistic endeavors revolved around creating large-scale sculptures and collage prints that intimately connect with his Puerto Rican heritage.

"Growing up in the United States, my relationship to Puerto Rico has been formed by the political ambiguity imposed by the United States, a colonial status that perpetuates both connection and separation. I am interested in mirroring the rejection and attraction I struggle with as a Latinx diasporican artist. In my work, I seek to explore the ongoing possibilities of autonomy that can emerge from Puerto Rico’s non-sovereign status, looking not just to reject colonial systems, but to create new forms of existence that celebrate the multiplicity of Puerto Rican identities. I aim to reclaim materials and the potential for alternative futures not defined by traditional notions of sovereignty, but by the diverse and evolving expressions of Puerto Rican identities in contemporary times, both in the States and on the Island. The figures I create often exist within narratives that are beyond their control, echoing the historical and ongoing conditions that shape the lives of Puerto Ricans."
